This month we speak to Wendy Whittaker-Large of Best Nest to talk about her passion for property, ever-growing portfolio of HMOs, secret of her success and find out how Winston Churchill inspired her to follow her passion.
What is your company name?
Best Nest.
What do you specialise in?
HMOs.
Describe your property/investment credentials in one paragraph?
I own Best Nest – a high end HMO company – and Best Nest Egg (an HMO investment club). Over the past 18 years I have steadily built a multi-million pound property portfolio whilst raising a family and running an award-winning training business. I now help other people achieve financial freedom whilst juggling domestic and family commitments. I am also an award-winning early years trainer and teacher.
When did you first become interested in property?
Around 25 years ago.
Why were you specifically attracted to property?
I viewed it as a long-term investment and an alternative to a pension.
Where are the best UK property hotspots at the moment?
Where I live in Cheshire! Doesn't everyone say that though?
Best piece of advice you’ve ever heard?
Never, ever, ever, ever, ever give up (Winston Churchill).
Worst piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Get a job.
What are your top five tips for anyone thinking of building a property portfolio?
Start small but move fast.
What is your proudest achievement, either in your personal or professional life?
My four sons and after that my Masters degree.
Where do you see your business in five years time?
In five years time I aim to have 20 HMOs and 20 single-let properties. I’d also like to have completed a number of commercial developments and conversions.

How do you relax?
Reading, running and keeping fit, baking, watching films.

Energetic, driven, open, communicative and dynamic.
Where would you choose to live if you could live anywhere in the world?
Portugal or here.
What three things couldn’t you live without in your home?
Running water, electricity and my bed!
