Crossrail Project - 75% of Work Completed
As delivery of the Crossrail programme advances, the new railways and train stations are beginning to take shape across the capital, with 75% of the project now complete. Running from Reading and Heathrow in the west, through 42km of new tunnels under London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, the project will see the arival of 10 new stations and upgrades of 30 more. It will integrate new and existing infrastructures, bringing super-fast connections to London and the South East.
The distinct characters of each of the 10 new stations are also starting to appear as construction moves towards architectural fit-out. This includes the echoes of Brunel at Paddington, jewels at Farringdon and the theatres and night life at Tottenham Court Road.
As part of Crossrail's construction programme, nearly 20km of permanent track has been installed inside the new tunnels and more of the mechanical and electrical fit-out has progressed, transforming the new space into an operational railway. This means improved transport links, which in turn should refelct favourably on house prices and specific areas along the line. Many property buyers are taking advantage of the rail's arrival and snapping up attractive properties along the line.
TfL Rail celebrated its first year of successful service on the route between Liverpool Street and Shenfield. Up until the end of 2015/16, the new service carried more than 38 million passengers.
